Welcome to Congregation Agudas Achim
Congregation Agudas Achim (CAA) is a group of people who come together in Austin, Texas, to connect with one another, feed their Jewish souls and connect with Hashem. Living in a dynamic, fast-growing city, we come from many places and bring our many talents and traditions. We cherish a connection with authentic tradition, prayer, and Jewish practice that is best represented by the Conservative Movement. We welcome newcomers; we honor our roots. We have grown by 150 families in the past two years and now number more than 650. We are led by Rabbi Neil F. Blumofe, our Spiritual Leader, who has been part of our family for 14 years. We are headed toward our Centennial in 2014. Come and be a part of our congregation.
A fundamental aspect of being Jewish is the sense of community, so for us to mingle is second nature. Mingle is your gate into a broader community and your invitation to help build community.
The Social Action Committee provides a set of activities that involves our membership, including our children, in personal acts of loving kindness. We visit the sick, comfort mourners, make sure people in our community have enough to eat. We also help serve the larger Austin community by supporting schools in need, refugee families and helping the homeless. We thank those who work on Christmas Day protecting and serving the community by bringing them cookies and our gratitude. If you would like to take a leadership role or participate in upcoming projects, please contact the event’s chair.
ATX Havurah is a group of young adults (both members and “friends” of CAA) who come together for monthly “Shapotlucks” and holiday celebrations, share Jewish learning, and support our broader community. We are a diverse group of singles, couples, and families who define “young” as: if you feel young! For more information please contact, the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/226386226615/.
United Synagogue Youth is open to all Jewish youth grades 9 to 12 and Kadima is for grades 6 to 8. At Congregation Agudas Achim, our focus is on REC (Religious, Educational and Cultural) programs and SATO (Social Action / Tikun Olam) programs. We have several regional conventions each year. Our region consists of chapters from Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, Oklahoma City, and New Orleans. We typically have two USY events per month and one Kadima event per month for all kids to get together and enjoy each other’s company.
For more information on either of these groups, please contact: USY/Kadima Advisor AAUSY18@gmail.com.
For Young Adults:
Congregation Agudas Achim re-envisioned young professional's group. We are in our 20s and 30s, looking to connect with our tradition and with one another. Together ("Yachad" in Hebrew), we find meaningful ways to explore and experience Judaism - whether that be in a coffee shop, someone's home, nature, or synagogue. Please be in touch with Rabbi Swedroe (email@example.com) for more information and to join our Facebook group!
The Sisterhood provides a collective presence, voice and strength in at Congregation Agudas Achim. As an extended family, women of all ages are welcomed and encouraged to become involved in our many cultural, religious, educational and social activities. We develop and initiate programs and projects, which will benefit our congregation, our community, and our Sisterhood. Sisterhood Agudas Achim is a member of the Women’s League of Conservative Judaism. Our mission is to strengthen and unite the women of our congregation and support them in mutual efforts, to understand and perpetuate Conservative Judaism in the home, synagogue, and community and to reinforce our bonds with Israel and Jews worldwide.
The Brotherhood exists as an auxiliary of Congregation Agudas Achim to create a bond of friendship among the men of the congregation and strengthen ties among Jewish men in the community. For fun and in service to the community, we build the Sukkah, put on the Kosher Chili Cookoff, promote blood drives and assemble weekly for Sunday bicycle rides. We are open to male members of Congregation Agudas Achim, and males 18 years of age and over who are members of the household of a member of the Congregation. Jewish males 18 years of age and over not affiliated with Congregation Agudas Achim are also welcome.
Education, Entertainment & Eating!
Our underlying goals are kept in mind when planning programs: make new friends, renew friendships, and enrich synagogue life. Programs adhere to the “three E’s”: entertainment, education, and of course eating. HAZAK programs have been varied, and the response has been remarkably enthusiastic. Our program for those 55 and over has gained national attention.
