"This is not your Father's Men's Club" We get involved with things that are needed around the synagogue and the community. We invite your participation and support!

The Brotherhood has been working within the synagogue and is alive and well…This has been evolving over the past 2 years! So far, we organized the past two Annual Chili Cook-offs, established a Quarterly Blood Drive Program, meet regularly for Bike Rides on Sunday mornings and most recently we served Hotdogs and Chili to the CAARS Students and their families to celebrate the end of the school year!
We will continue the tradition of Building the Congregational Sukkah in the Courtyard.  We hope to continue to expand our programming as our ranks increase!
Let’s build this together and have some fun in the process

EVENT RECAP

This years Chili Cook-Off was fantastic!  We would like to give a special “Thank You” to all of the Sponsors, Teams and Volunteers who make this event what it is.  This year’s event had local artists displaying their work , featured music by The Danny Fast Fingers Band and Rob Rosenthal was the MC for the day.

For the past seven years, this family-friendly event has drawn teams of chili “mavens” from all over the area. Each one convinced their recipe has what it takes to win over the judges. Winners in the beef and vegetarian chili as well as the “People’s Choice” categories take home trophies but all participants take home great memories of fun, food, Activities for the Kids and, of course, friendly competition. The event is community building in nature and the proceeds are used to further a variety of activities and causes within the community.

Our Esteemed Judges were:
Chef Ariel Dvorin - Executive Head Chef / Proprietor of Chefs Catering                              Jamie Durnil - Owner of Austin Terrier Restaurant
Beth Golden Marsh – Owner of Sign Effects

Also, special thanks to this year’s sponsors: Austin Radiology Associates, Austin Terrier Restaurant, Balloon People, Capitol Beverage: Beer Brands, Capitol Tent, Inc., Central Texas Refuse, Chef’s Catering, David Finkel Photography, Good Times Party Rental, HEB Kosher Store, HK Propane Exchange, Jason’s Deli, Jewish Community Center (JCC), LAR Designs, One Resource Group, Inc., OTUS Development, LCC., Sign Effects, Tank & Shirley Rubinett, Aytz Chaim Trust, and US Foods.

The winner of the Best Meat Chili and overall Judges Choice was "Ninja Chili" Team Captain: Jerrod Kogut, The Best Vegetarian Chili was "The Yummakas" (JFS) Team Captain: Steve Chodorow.  The Peoples Choice Award went to: Boy Scouts Troop 128 “Flaming Jalapeños Team”  Team Captain: Jeffery Van Keer.  The award for the most spirited Team was “The Beth Israel Brotherhood Team” Team Captain:  Harry Deitz.  This event is always a great community building event that is a "fun filled family friendly fundraiser".

We appreciate the support of this fun event that brings the community together…We learned a lot from this year’s cook off and hope to make next year’s even better.  So, mark your calendars now for the 8th Annual Kosher Chili Cook Off, which is currently scheduled to be held on, February 10, 2013.

CAA-BROTHERHOOD SPRING OUTING: “THE MATZO BALL OPEN”

Marty Davis has taken the lead in expanding a golfing tradition in our Agudas Achim community, where we play a round with Rabbi Blumofe during Passover (on Easter Sunday).  This year that Sunday is the 2nd day of Passover, so we have pushed the Matzo Ball Open out till the next Sunday, April 15th.  Our goal (and Hope) is that we can get 10 Foursomes together, have a great deal of fun and raise a little money for the Rabbi’s fund.

The round will be a Shot gun start (starting at 8am) and Everyone will get to play a Par 3 hole with the Rabbi.

Please let Marty know ASAP so we can get a gauge of interest.   Please feel free to invite others to create Foursomes. Everyone is welcome. I am estimating the cost to be about $85 per player that will include a round of golf, cart, breakfast in the cart and maybe some surprises.

Please call, Marty Davis if you have any questions at 512-415-8859 or send him an email at: mfd@austin.rr.com
